During the cold months of the year it is important to keep all parts of the body covered while outside, especially places easily susceptible to frost-bite, such as the ears. It is also important to have the ears well covered when participating in very loud activities, such as shooting a gun, because the sound can damage the eardrums. Wearing earmuffs can solve both of these problems, but within groups of people it can be very difficult to have a conversation with everyone's ears covered up with heavy material. Fortunately, there is an answer. Electronic earmuffs offer all the insulation of traditional earmuffs, but with additional benefits. They have built-in microphone sets so that voices of other people can be easily heard if they are also using electronic earmuffs. Working similar to a hand radio, the earmuffs are on the same frequency with each other so that on both hunting and skiing trips people can keep their ears protected while still being able to communicate with their friends.
