Due to the amount of sparks created by welding, it is extremely important to always use safety glasses when doing it. Made of heavy see-through plastic, welding safety glasses cover the entire eye area to protect against the hot metal bits that are flying through the are. Oftentimes the glasses are tinted for further protection. The glow of the hot metal can be intense and having tinted glasses will make it easier to look at the metal for long periods of time. Head helmets are also used, which protect the entire head while providing a tinted eye-slot of the person to see out of.
